NEVADA GAMING AUTHORITY — STATEWIDE CASINO GUIDE
Best Casinos in Nevada (2026)
From the neon of Reno to the mountain glamour of Lake Tahoe — Nevada's casino scene spans 16 counties and hundreds of properties. This is your complete guide to gambling across the Silver State.
Nevada: America's Casino Capital
Nevada has been the heartbeat of American gambling since 1931 — the first U.S. state to legalize commercial casino gaming. Today, the Silver State hosts over 340 licensed nonrestricted casinos across 16 counties, with major gaming markets in Reno, Lake Tahoe, Henderson, Laughlin, and beyond.
Who Regulates Nevada Casinos?
All Nevada casinos are licensed and regulated by two agencies working in tandem:
- Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) — investigates applicants, issues licenses, enforces compliance
- Nevada Gaming Commission (NGC) — the five-member commission that makes final licensing decisions and adopts gaming regulations
Nevada is a commercial gaming market. The state's constitution and statutes do not provide for tribal gaming compacts. Every licensed casino in Nevada is a commercial property. There are no tribal casinos in Nevada.
Sports Betting in Nevada
Nevada has had fully legal sports betting since 1949 — decades before any other state. Nevada sportsbooks are located inside licensed casinos and are regulated by the NGCB. Sports betting is legal, established, and unrestricted to adults 21 and over at licensed Nevada casino-sportsbooks.
Online Gambling in Nevada
Nevada law permits online poker only under NRS 463.750. Two platforms are licensed for Nevada residents:
- WSOP.com Nevada (operated by 888/Caesars)
- BetMGM Poker Nevada (part of a multi-state network with New Jersey, Delaware, and Michigan)
Online casino games (slots, blackjack, roulette, table games) are NOT legal in Nevada. Only licensed online poker platforms may operate in the state. Players must be physically located inside Nevada to access licensed platforms.

🗺️ Beyond the Major Markets

🏈 Sports Betting in Nevada — Legal Since 1949
Nevada was the first U.S. state to legalize sports betting — not in 2018 when the Supreme Court struck down PASPA, but in 1949. For 69 years, Nevada was the only state in the nation where you could legally bet on sporting events at a licensed sportsbook. That legacy is woven into Nevada's casino culture.
How Nevada Sports Betting Works:
- All sports betting occurs at licensed casino sportsbooks — there is no standalone sportsbook industry separate from casinos
- Nevada sportsbooks are regulated by the NGCB under strict standards established over decades
- You must be physically present in Nevada and 21+ to bet
- Nevada does permit mobile sports wagering but only through apps tied to a licensed Nevada casino (you must first register in person at the casino)
- Nevada does not require bettors to use a physical kiosk — mobile apps from licensed casinos (Caesars, MGM, Wynn, etc.) are available
Major Sportsbook Operators in Nevada:
- Caesars Sportsbook — multiple Nevada locations (Harrah's, Caesars, Paris, Bally's, etc.)
- BetMGM / MGM Sports — MGM properties across Nevada
- Wynn Sportsbook — Wynn Las Vegas and Encore
- Westgate SuperBook — LV Superbook, one of the world's largest sportsbooks (30,000 sq ft, 350 screens)
- South Point Sports Book — major locals sportsbook in Las Vegas
- William Hill / Caesars — integrated into Caesars properties post-merger
- Station Casinos — multiple locals properties (Green Valley Ranch, Red Rock, etc.)

⚠️ What Is NOT Legal in Online Nevada Gambling
Online casino games including slots, blackjack, roulette, baccarat, video poker, and other casino table games are NOT authorized under Nevada law. Only licensed online poker platforms may legally operate. If a site offers Nevada players access to online casino games (not poker), that site is operating outside Nevada law. Always verify any platform is licensed by the NGCB at gaming.nv.gov before depositing.
